My name is Brittany Brazil. I practice the art of pyrography, which literally translates to “writing with fire.” Pyrography is done by using a heated metal tip to burn designs into wood and other materials. I’ve been practicing this art since 2009 and have received several awards and accolades for my works in this medium. I have done custom works for artists including Guitar Guy, Avenged Sevenfold, and Bo Bice.

I create art with the hope that it will give the viewer a new way to perceive and also stimulate his or her own imagination. I am most motivated by surrealism and naturally, this is the idea that is rendered most dominantly in my art. I enjoy skewing an object or figure so that it is not completely true to form, but still retains the idea of what the figure or form once was.

I find pyrography to be the ideal art for me because it allows me to get across my ideas more precisely, given that the burn marks are thinner than pencil strokes. In effect, this allows for more details and more pristine markings.

I enjoy pyrography because a finished burning appears as if it actually emanates warmth and I love the different hues and tones that can be achieved by utilizing temperature and other natural elements.

“Writing with fire” is something I ardently enjoy doing and my hope is that it is something you appreciate. Thanks for checking out my work!
